By now you’re probably aware that Embarcadero is gearing up for the release of RAD Studio 13 Florence. You may have also discovered that RAD Studio 13 will introduce a new Ternary Operator for Delphi, along with enhancements to WebStencils.
What else do we already know, and what’s coming?
But first, why Florence?
Why Was The City of Florence Chosen for The Naming of RAD Studio 13?
As you know, every RAD Studio version comes with the name of a city, and RAD Studio 13 is no different. This time around, however, the choice of Florence was of unique importance. Here’s why.
To choose the name we asked you, the reader, to help us choose between two cities – Florence and Syracuse – each of which has made an indelible contribution to the history of the world. Florence as the cradle of the Renaissance and home of Leonardo da Vinci, and Syracuse as the home of Archimedes.
Florence won, and we’re delighted to attach the name of this truly great city to the new version of RAD Studio, because the spirit of RAD aligns so well with the spirit of Florence and the Renaissance – a pursuit to transcend boundaries and set new benchmarks – in the case of RAD, for rapid app development.
How Much AI Will RAD Studio Incorporate?
AI itself is a precursor to a form of technological Renaissance that will leave no part of our lives untouched. For Embarcadero, the north star is what it’s always been – keep up with the times, but don’t forget the core value you deliver to the customer.
From responding the onset of new platforms like iOS and Android nearly two decades ago to optimizing on the growing influence of Large Language Models and AI tools on today’s development workflows, the RAD Studio product team knows how to embellish the product with exactly what you need to do more and do it faster and better, combining enthusiasm and vision with a sober outlook that filters out the hype.
AI is there for you if you need it since RAD Studio 12.3, and so it will be in 13. But only you will set the boundaries of how much it will do for you, or instead of you.
Will RAD Studio 13 Include New Features?
As mentioned earlier and as announced by Marco Cantu, RAD Studio 13 includes the introduction of a new much-anticipated Ternary Operator for Delphi, It will also introduce along with enhancements to WebStencils.
And although no feature is committed until the product’s GA release, it’s also safe to expect RAD Studio 13 will also include updates to supported platforms and language versions.
What other new features should you expect? Well, the best way to get a glimpse of what’s coming is to keep track of Marco Cantu’s blog posts in the runup to the release, so check the Embarcadero Blog often!

The changes you detailed are very few . I realy hope that there are more major changes and for c++builder too .
There’s a lot more coming; we just can’t discuss it right now since we’re still working on finalizing features and we prefer not to describe something that later has to change or be removed in the light of testing and discussion among beta testers. RAD Studio 13 is going to be a bumper release of goodies!
Will there be a long-awaited ARM compiler for Windows?
Will it support left to right languages like Arabic or Hebrew. for android
My fervent wish: the Professional license now includes ability to target Linux platforms including use of FMX. Carving out this one feature among the many present in Architect and Enterprise and including it as a part of the Professional license would be fantastic for those of us not able to afford those top tier products — not all users of RAD Studio work for large companies.
Thanks for letting me know your thoughts DJ. I have passed on your wishes to the rest of the team to let them know. 😁👍
I would like to request an enhancement to the Delphi IDE editor regarding code folding.
Currently, the IDE allows folding for methods, classes, and regions defined with {$REGION} / {$ENDREGION}. While this is useful, it does not allow folding of control structures such as if/else, for, while, repeat, and case blocks.
In Visual Studio, these structures can be collapsed individually, which greatly improves code readability and navigation in larger units. Having this feature in Delphi would make it easier to manage complex methods and focus only on the relevant parts of the code during development.
It would be very helpful if the Delphi IDE supported:
Folding for if..then..else blocks
Folding for for, while, repeat loops
Folding for case statements
This would improve productivity and usability.
It’s a nice idea. I have seen it done in a few other places. Thanks for suggesting it! 😁👍
This would be a really useful improvement. Visual Studio has this and it makes navigating large methods so much easier. Having proper folding for if statements and loops in Delphi would definitely boost productivity.
One significant enhancement to the Delphi language would be adding support for strings as case selectors, similar to Free Pascal. Currently, the case statement is limited to ordinal types (such as integers, characters, or enumerations), which enables compile-time optimizations like jump tables for superior efficiency compared to chained if-then-else statements. However, Embarcadero could extend the compiler to maintain this performance for ordinal types while also supporting strings—perhaps by internally compiling string cases to equivalent if-then-else logic at runtime, as Free Pascal demonstrates. This would provide developers with greater flexibility without compromising existing code.
It’s a great suggestion and I think a few people would like it as well. It’s probably not going to make it into RAD Studio 13.0, but I’ve made sure we make a note of it – a good idea, is a good idea!
If I may add another suggestion: Please improve Error Insight in the LSP server. Currently, there is a significant delay in updating the error list after code changes. Initially, the list of errors becomes overwhelmingly large, often filled with false positives due to incomplete parsing, and it takes many seconds in complex units for the LSP server to reprocess and clear or correct them, disrupting workflow and requiring constant waiting. To address this, please consider learning from tools like Visual Assist, which excels in real-time code inspection (using LLVM/Clang-based diagnostics for instant error highlighting, style violations, and automatic corrections as you type), efficient navigation, and mistake prevention (e.g., highlighting mismatched braces or correcting symbol cases on-the-fly)—features that keep developers productive without lengthy delays. Unfortunately, Visual Assist currently does not support Delphi/Object Pascal (though it has been integrated into RAD Studio for C++Builder since version 12, suggesting potential for similar enhancements in the Delphi LSP server). Implementing comparable optimizations, such as faster incremental parsing and reduced dependency on full compiler recompiles, would greatly improve Error Insight for larger projects.
I registered for today’s RAD Studio 13 Florence webinar twice, but never received a confirmation.

Hello, are you planning to add a lambda operator, like in other languages? Nowadays, most widely used languages use lambda expressions.
We’re considering a number of different additional language features from users. Lambdas are one of them. We can’t promise anything, but all suggestions are welcome.
