We are thrilled to announce the launch of Delphi 12 Community Edition and C++Builder 12 Community, two full-featured, free versions of our renowned Delphi IDE and of our flagship C++Builder IDE.
The Community Edition versions are designed to empower startups, students, and hobbyists to create robust and scalable Delphi applications across multiple platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS or powerful C++ applications for Windows.
While the Community Edition program is not new, Embarcadero is making the Community Edition version and license for the most recent 12.1 release of Delphi and C++Builder available today. While there was often a delay in bringing CE to the latest versions, Embarcadero has decided to release the Community Editions earlier to offer all of the great new features of Delphi 12 and C++Builder 12 to the developer community at large.

With this new release, Community Edition users can now enjoy the milestone innovations of the 12 Athens and 12.1 Athens releases, including the new Clang toolchain in C++Builder, support for the latest versions of Android for Delphi, Skia FireMonkey support and new features in the RAD Studio IDE for both products.
Who is the Community Edition for?
The Community Editions are perfect for:
- Freelance Developers: Create and sell apps until your revenue reaches $5,000 per year.
- Startups: Use the Community Edition if your annual revenue is less than $5,000 and if your team has up to 5 developers.
- Students: Learn and experiment with professional-level tools to kickstart your development career.
Community Editions are available free of charge to developers, and organizations with fewer than five developers. You or your company must have revenues less than US$5,000. They come with a one-year term license and a limited commercial license. If you aren’t sure if you qualify for the CE license then start with the Free Trial or consult the Community Edition License FAQ.
Once you outgrow Community Edition, upgrade to a perpetual license with an unrestricted commercial license and choose between the Professional, Enterprise, and Architect Editions of Delphi, C++Builder, and RAD Studio.
Notice that the Community Edition should not be used as an extended trial, as the licenses are different. Also, CE should not be used by companies with other regular licenses.

Does the Delphi 11 CE license continue working if I install Delphi 12 CE?
I was Delphi developer between 1998-2006. Now I am using Java for my enterprise-grade web application . I still was impress ed in VCL components and RAD style of Delphi. I will try and make my old day bright now.

Can you tell an approximate number? I was always curious how many people are working on RAD Studio (behind the scenes).
Not sure (and I’m not 100% definite we would give out exact details) but it does number in the 100s and has a lot of different roles and responsibilities to make a release happen and be successful. For example, the excellent graphic design team who carve out logos, slide templates, web page imagery, color themes, splash screens. Then there is the social media team, developers, PMs, product architects, QA, management team, marketing, sales, SCs, pre-sales engineers, renewals team, web team, IT team, infrastructure, HR, payroll, financial, developer relations, and many more. Honestly, WAY more than most people would ever think.
I can honestly say that in my nearly 40-year career I have never worked with a more motivated, passionate, and dedicated group of people. That is not a shmaltzy, throw-away statement – I really mean it. It is a pleasure to work with them – and I may be one of the well-known members of that team but without everyone getting it together and pulling in the right direction we would sink. That camaraderie and focus on improving quality, intent to produce the best product we can, backing it up with outreach and listening to feedback (and acting on it) is something which is often lacking in the industry.
In almost every similar company it is not possible to put a name to a contact or have someone to moan at / compliment / ask for features etc. At Embarcadero we make sure you can – and you all are welcome to email me at [email protected] – and I will answer. We are not a faceless monolith. We know that RAD Studio with Delphi or C++Builder is a tool for your working day, and we know this becomes a very intimate relationship, one we take very seriously.
I mean it – everyone on the team is a firecracker. Bugs really hurt. Successes make us soar. Our goal is continual improvement, to push things further, faster, better. We don’t always get it right, but we jump on missteps and build on the good stuff. There is a whole army of us on that mission. 😁👍
