Kiriakos Vlahos, The Man Who Made Python Better

Kiriakos Vlahos

While most of the world was celebrating the end of 2025 and the arrival of new hope for 2026, we at Embarcadero received the devastating news that Kiriakos Vlahos, known to the Delphi and Python communities as PyScripter had passed away, suddenly, and quite unexpectedly at the end of December. It is a brutal loss, of course, to Kiriakos’ family, his colleagues around the globe, the Python and Delphi developer communities, but also to us here at Embarcadero. Marco Cantú and I both have very fond memories of Kiriakos and had enormous respect for his abilities as a software developer. I also heard from Jim McKeeth who, like me, had interviewed Kiriakos several times and had him appear on numerous webinars. All of us were very sad to hear he is no longer around to beam out that cheeky smile.

Here’s a very small reminder of Kiriakos’ contributions.

But this doesn’t fully cover the breadth of his skills. Despite being known quite widely as “PyScripter” due to his stewardship of the enormously popular PyScripter Python IDE project, he was actually better known in academia as Dr. Kiriakos Vlahos. Kiriakos authored, co-authored, or was cited on a vast array of academic papers: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Kiriakos-Vlahos

Not to mention his direct and significant involvement in the Python for Delphi project which allowed Delphi and Python developers to work together, harnessing the best aspects of both programming languages in ways that were previously impossible. There are other contributors now who help maintain P4D, but it was Kiriakos who created it and drove it to be the success it is today. He even found time to contribute towards the widely-used SynEdit project. He was a remarkable person, and he will continue on as an inspiration even though he has passed on.
