You can create some truly incredible apps using RAD Studio with Delphi or C++Builder. Apps made with Delphi are superbly robust and work natively on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. No requirement for extra runtimes, dependencies, downloads, or burgeoning frameworks since they are fully compiled, not scripts or wrappers for web apps. In the hands of a skilled developer such as the subject of this week’s ‘meet the developer’, Erwin Denissen, it is possible to create completely astounding apps of world-beating, award-winning quality. We took some time for Erwin show us his wonderful FontCreator app, while he discussed why he chose Delphi, and what made him decide to swap from the Windows-based VCL framework to cross-platform FireMonkey.

What is FontCreator?
In the words of Erwin: “FontCreator is the world’s most popular font editor. With over 5 million downloads to date, FontCreator is considered the world’s most popular and best font editor. Create and edit (variable) OpenType and web fonts. An advanced feature set makes it the tool of choice for professionals, and its intuitive interface is straightforward enough for users at any expertise level”.
I can tell you personally too that not only is FontCreator a really great font editor – in fact the World’s best font editor – it is also a gorgeous example of meticulous software engineering by a developer who really puts every ounce of effort and craftmanship into his work. It is slick, performant, clear, and hugely powerful – and it’s written entirely in Delphi. It’s an example again of Delphi being silently successful; those five million users have absolutely no idea they’re using a Delphi program.
