InterBase 2009 now available. Check it out!

Its been a while since I blogged about things InterBase. We have just released InterBase 2009. This release is exciting in many ways for us as it introduces InterBase to the world of data(base) encryption. Some salient features include:

  • Full Database encryption
  • Column-level data encryption
  • SQL Grant/Revoke privilege integrated with Encryption Key Management
  • Over-the-wire SSL encryption of C/S communication

Please make sure you read the ReleaseNotes.PDF and some of the newer chapters in the 6-manual set to get an understanding into the details of the implementation. Some additional chapters have been added to describe Disaster Recovery and Incremental Backup features introduced in InterBase 2007 a couple of years ago.

You will also notice that with InterBase 2009 the first 8 cpus/cores come licensed with the base product; thereby reducing the TCO significantly on SMP systems. This was introduced earlier this year for InterBase 2007 also.

You can also watch or download a "What’s New in InterBase 2009" presentation to get more functional/technical insight on the main features in this release.
