Random Thoughts on the Passing Scene #77
19 Aug
- Nice article on Delphi 2009 and C++Builder 2009 in eWeek.
- Feel free to Digg This or Reddit that.
- And while I was at it over on Digg, I submitted this one, too. That headline is priceless.
- And speaking of social media sites, I’m slowly starting to get into Twitter.
- Jim McKeeth has started up a Delphi podcast at http://www.delphi.org/. Episode 1 includes a discount for BeyondCompare, another great ISV tool built with Delphi. You can even subscribe via iTunes.

August 25th, awesome! Can’t wait, and thanks for the C++ simul-release (assuming it is).
August 19th, 2008 at 5:40 pm"Delphi 2009 and C++Builder 2009 will be available on Aug. 25" - Is that U.S. only or U.K. as well. Does ‘available’ mean available to download or available via resellers?
August 19th, 2008 at 8:21 pmWow, release dates and prices. That was unexpected.
August 19th, 2008 at 9:02 pmThat’s a great news ( only 5 days to wait
)
August 19th, 2008 at 11:34 pmWill Delphi 2009 and C++Builder 2009 be available worldwide ?
$399 for pro and $1299 for enterprise. Presumably those are upgrade prices?
August 19th, 2008 at 11:36 pmIn year 2008 or 2009 ?

August 19th, 2008 at 11:50 pmWhy it was published on eWeek but not on the CodeGear site?
August 20th, 2008 at 2:36 amI guess no upgrade prices. $399 for both new and old users.
August 20th, 2008 at 6:15 ambtw, the 25th will be the announce date and day we begin taking orders, but shipping will liklely be later that week and will depend on when we go gold. We’re aiming to go gold next week, of the 25th, but we’re not shipping until it’s ready, so if it requires more days we’ll take them.
re pricing, yes they quoted the US upgrade pricing.
August 20th, 2008 at 6:16 amAnyone know if Dev Express will be ready with updates?
August 20th, 2008 at 7:19 amYou finally gave in and joined twitter Nick! Welcome to the party!

Please feel free to let DevExpress know that you are interested in Tiburon versions of their products.

August 20th, 2008 at 9:42 amI guess DevExpress knows it very well - probably they’ll release their components as soon as they are ready too.
August 20th, 2008 at 10:21 amAnd what about upgrade pricing for Delphi + C++Builder bundle?
August 20th, 2008 at 12:13 pmkashmi –
We’ll be announcing pricing when we launch.

August 20th, 2008 at 12:36 pmIf my experience of ExpressSpreadsheet is anything to go by then I wouldn’t count on Devexpresses stuff being ready on any version ever.
Of course it’s possible that the developers of their other components are more competent…..
August 20th, 2008 at 3:03 pmIts a pity. I was feeling happy for a moment until I discover $399 is upgrade price
August 20th, 2008 at 3:07 pmBy the way are you sure these prices are optimized for maximum profit ?
@David Heffernan: we’ve been using DevExpress QuantumGrid and ExpressBars components for years and without them we would have left Delphi years ago. I can’t comment on the ExpressSpreadsheet because I never used it, but they release monthly fixes (something CodeGear could learn) and their support answers questions fast enough. I see their controls also used in some top Delphi applications, and that IMHO means they are not so bad.
August 21st, 2008 at 1:27 amso the $399 is the upgrade price for C++ Builder and Delphi combined right?
August 21st, 2008 at 3:55 amWonder if the news that $ Eur have reached USA already.
