Spirit of Delphi 2007 — Andreas Hausladen

06 Dec

The winner of the 2007 Spirit of Delphi Award goes to Andreas Hausladen.

Andreas has been an invaluable member of the Delphi community for a long time, and we are happy to recognize his contributions with this award.

Andreas has made countless contributions both to the Delphi community and to the product itself.  His Delphi SpeedUp project has been very valuable to Delphi customers, so much so that we’ve enlisted Andreas’s help to incorporate his work right into the IDE itself.  DDevExtensions is another of Andreas’s creations, and is used by folks who prefer the old-style Tool Palette among other things.

As mentioned above, Andreas has kindly offered his incredible expertise to help improve the quality of Delphi itself. Besides being an outstanding tester and contributing countless outstanding reports into QualityCentral, Andreas is graciously helping out with incorporating his speed and optimization suggestions into the IDE itself.

All in all, the community is vastly better off and the product is much improved through Andreas’s efforts.  That’s what makes Andreas our 2007 Spirit of Delphi Award Winner.

Congratulations to Andreas for a well deserved price and kudos to CodeGear for selecting someone how increases the value of Delphi so much.

Any chance of CodeGear trying to hire Andreas? I would love to see his multi line strings implemented in Delphi. All this SQL with #13#10 and quotes is getting tedious.

As I said to one developer this week, "Who doesn’t use DelphiSpeedUp!" Well done Andreas.

    Thomas Mueller Says:

I think Andreas deserves this award. Also I am glad to hear that the DelphiSpeedUp optimizations will be part of the Delphi IDE in the future. I also like his other ideas he has put into DDevExtensions and DLangExtensions, even though I of course cannot use the latter in production code.

Congrats to Andreas and bigger congrats goes to *you*!!!

It’s very encouraging to see that you value your community. It’s your best asset.

(As an aside, congrats and all our best wises also for your name day, you posted this very very nice post in 6 December, St. Nicolas! :-) )

Speaking more on other plane now, yes, I do think that you should hire him (just my humble opinion, of course). Because if you don’t, others will do.

Completing to Jan Derk: Yes it would be very nice to have multi line strings. See QC#45962

    Once again, very good post.

    Congratulations, Andreas!
I’ve been using Andreas’ add-ons for a looooong time, and it’s great news that CG gives him the recognition he deserves. I sure hope CG will let Andreas significantly benefit from the deal, and secure in some way his continuous participation to the improvement of RAD Studio - for everyone’s benefits.

Very nice choice for the award… well deserve! This from a former recipient… hey Nick, I’d love to see the page with the list of people awarded "resurrected" by CodeGear… there was one for many years… including you and me!

    Peter Says:

    Great to hear!
I hope, CG will solve now all open QC’s from Andreas as soon as possible.
BTW: John O’Harrow is also an amazing Delphi programmer and contributor.

    Gerald Says:

Great work! I do use his extensions and have found it great… keep it up!

I am also very glad that CodeGear is getting into the community/developer spirit again. Please keep them coming.. and you’ll get more developers (I’ve already personally gotten 2 developers to try out and use Delphi because of all the good news coming out in the past months)

    John Says:

Congratulations to Andreas. His tools (specially DelphiSpeedup/BCC32PCH) has made working with the new IDE much more pleasant/snappier. Thank you so much.

    Marco van de Voort Says:

Am I mistaken, or didn’t Andreas also do quite good work to keep Kylix running after CG tossed the towel?

  17. 17
    Hamer H. Says:

Andreas created the unofficial bug fix for the missing context menu.

CodeGear is not able to make an official fix in a timely manner.

I think because of this Andreas deserves to be a 2007 Delphi Spirit!
