Nick’s Asia Trip: Japan
My next stop was in Japan, and boy was it busy. I did four press interviews, a meeting with Japanese community members, two presentations, and live Delphi Hour, all in two days.
The main event was the Developer Camp. It was a one day seminar for CodeGear customers, this time with a focus on Delphi. I gave the Delphi Product Address as well as a technical talk on Using Delphi and Blackfish with ASP.NET. (That talk may be a little strange to listen to — I speak more slowly than normal for the benefit of the simultaneous translators. Or maybe that’s better, I don’t know.
The event was attended by about 250 or so folks. It was a very nicely run event, and I was impressed to learn that the Japanese office puts on such an event once a quarter. Very cool.
That night I also did The Delphi Hour, live from Tokyo. The event was translated sequentially into English, or Japanese, as the case may be….). Fujii-san took some pictures, and the replay can be heard here. The event was highlighted by Tagawa Yooichi, one of our compiler developers, getting up and answering a question or two. That was very nice.
The trip to Japan was really fun. I hadn’t been back there since I transferred away from the USS Midway and Carrier Airwing Five in early 1990. (Japan holds a lot of great memories for me, as I met my lovely, wonderful wife there.) The Japanese team for CodeGear is a strong one, and very hospitable. I ate a bunch of great food — I had forgotten how much I liked real Japanese food. They did a great job making my visit productive and educational.
And that ends my trip — it was fun, busy, and tiring. And now if I can just stop waking up at 03:00am, I’ll be fine. ![]()

Hi,
I wish you could have dropped by the Philippines too and revive the Delphi spirit over there.
Lots of good developers and programmers there and lots of them came from backgrounds of turbo pascal.
Maybe next time.. :). Thanks for keeping the Delphi spirit alive in Asia! More Power to the Delphi team!

A couple of facts for you:
1. Japan is a long way away.
2. I myself am not privy to nor knowledgable of every single thing that happens in this company throughout the whole world.
I’m pretty sure that both of these facts are not — or shouldn’t be, at least — surprising.
