The Delphi Hour This Week
I’m actually getting a bit squared away with The Delphi Hour.
This week, the Delphi Hour will be at the usual time, 2:00pm on Thursday, July 12, 2007.
We’ll use Interwise again to broadcast the show.
You all can chat amongst yourselves at http://chat.codegear.com in the Delphi Room.
This week, our guest will be Phil Dorcas of Omega Airline Software. Phil is a Delphi developer who works on scheduling software for airline maintenance. Scheduling is a tough problem, so I’m looking forward to talking to him about it.
And here’s where we get really squared away. I have guests lined up:
July 19 — Cary Jensen will talk about his experiences with Winforms and why he went back to VCL.
July 26 — Steve Kramer will be here in the studio to talk about the Rails-like framework he’s developed called "G"
And if you’d like to be a guest on The Delphi Hour, let me know - I’d love to stay squared away and have a line up of folks for the show. We’d love to have you and to shamelessly plug your product or company.

Hi Nick.
Thanks for the self updating news item (the clock ;o)
It is a bit easier for us overseas to find out what local time the Delphi show is on, regardles of timezones and daylight savings.

July 9th, 2007 at 9:35 pmInterwise is really making my life miserable… While I had no problems in CodeRage and the Dev Days, during the Delphi Hour Interwise keep freezing and takes 100% of one of my cpus and stays there. If I kill it and restart, it might work for a bit then it does that again.
I ended up missing most of Nick "FeedDemon" Bradbury’s talk, and today I can’t even reconnect! I tried to install the latest version of the participant app, but no luck. And the java client sucks.
Do you guys use any special settings that you didn’t on other events? Is there anything I should configure so that *it works*?
Missing the Delphi Hour is not an option!
July 12th, 2007 at 2:37 pmEric - You are not the only one. I spent the whole hour yesterday trying to get the broadcast(from the UK) including fully reinstalling Interwise at one point. My laptop doesn’t like 100%cpu (as it thrashes the adsl modem) and I expected I would be buying a new one today - but it seems okay now. I did not hear a word and if there were any visuals all I got was white screen other than the list of attendees. Previously I thought Interwise was unwise now I am sure!
July 13th, 2007 at 2:08 pmGlad I’m not alone (well, kinda)! The quality of/issues with the sound also makes the broadcast a lot less pleasant to listen to.
July 13th, 2007 at 5:17 pmI agree, the Interwise client is awful! I usually miss the live show, so I go back for the replay and have to listen to several minutes of prelude audio because the client doesn’t let me skip to the beginning of the broadcast. Can’t you at least post an mp3 of the show?
July 16th, 2007 at 3:25 pmI’d hoped to listen to Nick Bradbury. So far, I’ve heard some head bangin’ music and bits of voice that might have come from recording a tv program. Since I can’t tell that I’m tuned into the right "channel," I have no way to know whether this use of my time will eventually get to the content I want.
Couldn’t we just have a normal mp3 podcast, something that’s normal, that works, that doesn’t put up barriers like software installs? Remember, if you have to explain how it works, it’s not good enough.

We do the broadcasts live, and then put MP3 playbacks up later. We could simply record them and put them up without any user interaction, but we like to have live user questions during the show.
Keep an eye on here:

for the actual replays. You don’t have to listen live to get the information you want to hear.

July 19th, 2007 at 3:04 pmSure, I understand — you want the "live" experience to have interaction. I think the real trouble here is setting expectations. I’ve been going to this interwise place to hear replays. Their site uses that word, so even right now, here I am, seeking to hear Nick and instead there’s some lo-fi music.
I suggest:
- post to the dn.codegear.com site each replay in the audio/video section.
- update your blog posts to tell us when a replay is available.
Without those hints, I’d have never known where to look other that the interwise place except for this kind blog interaction.
Anyway, I’m glad to know I can hear these. Thanks very much.
