Live Templates Contest
Okay, I’m announcing the first Live Templates Contest.
I want you guys to send me your very best live templates. Put “LTC” in the subject line. I’ll sift through them and pick out the five best. I’ll give fame and glory to the five winners. I’ll see if I can get them included in the product (with your name in the tag, of course.). I’ll see if I can get your name in the about box.
Send as many as you want, and I’ll be the sole judge of their fitness. Assume that what you are sending me will be made public and might get in the product. (Getting it in the product would almost certainly require you signing away rights to the template). I’ll judge them on complexity, cleverness, usefulness and value to other Delphi users.
Live templates should be for the languages “Delphi” or “XML” or “HTML“. ( I’m not qualified to make decisions with C templates.)
Here’s a suggestion: Build a better “Template Template“ than the one that we have in the box. (Hint: Add a “point“ template to the mix)
So, break out those XML skills, and let me see your best stuff.
ADDED: Responses to the comments: The templates can be as complex or as simple as you like. Whatever is useful and valuable. And yes, you can use scripting if you want. All the better. Please, however, include all code for the scripting.
MORE ADDED: I’ll collect entries until February 19th.

Can the templates call a custom script engine or do they have to be XML only?

January 25th, 2007 at 3:19 amIs a complex template considered good or bad? (My opinion (paraphrasing Einstein): they should be as simple as possible but no simpler.)

January 25th, 2007 at 11:02 amDid you know we have a contest system implemented in CodeCentral you can use for this?
January 25th, 2007 at 9:25 pmI’ve copied this to our site, Nick.
January 25th, 2007 at 11:10 pmI am sure some clever developer from Holland will win now… :-))
Howsabout a little documentation about template scripting in the first place Nick?
I’m all for a contest, but would you give 100 people scissors and then have them do the 100 yard dash in the dark?
