CodeGear Software Assurance = Support and Maintenance = Annual Agreements

In the series of roadmap and developer day webinars we’ve held over the past two weeks, we’ve been asked several times about CodeGear’s Software Assurance offering.  The questions included: “What is Software Assurance”, “How much does it cost”, “Can I order it after I’ve already purchased my new license or upgrade”, “What do I receive during the 12 month period”, etc.

The best place to go to get more information about Software Assurance is to read the article on our support site at http://support.codegear.com/annual.

You must order software assurance when you purchase either a new license or an upgrade license.  You can order products and software assurance from our resellers and also our shop sites.  A list of resellers and online shop sites is available at http://www.codegear.com/shop.

When you order a CodeGear product from our resellers or one of our online shop sites, you’ll have the option to add software assurance along with your product order.  The following image shows your choices for adding software assurance to a C++Builder 2007 order.  One option is for the product level software assurance.  A second option is for studio level software assurance.  You also have a choice to select “no thanks“.

You can also choose to remove the Software Assurance (Support and Maintenance).  The following image shows an example of my shopping cart from the US online store for a C++Builder 2007 order containing the electronic download, media kit, and Software Assurance. You can also order Software Assurance from our world wide network of resellers.

For Delphi 2007 for Win32 we are offering Studio Support and Maintenance. There is no Delphi for Win32 “only” Support and Maintenance option at the time of this blog post. The following image shows a sample shopping cart for a Delphi 2007 for Win32 Enterprise Upgrade order with Software Assurance.

The following image contains a sample shopping cart for a JBuilder 2007 Enterprise upgrade with Software Assurance.

While the upgrade plus Software Assurance combined price might seem high (to some of you), the benefits (support, updates, upgrades) pay for themselves over the 12 month period. To continue to receive new versions and updates, just renew your Software Assurance contract each year (you don’t have to purchase further upgrades).  One last reminder, you can also order CodeGear products with Software Assurance from our worldwide network of resellers.

If I buy SA can I renew it next year or do I need to buy the product upgrade also?

    Leslie:

We renew it every year, and we get all the product upgrades - it’s included. This is for the architect version, but I’ll be surprised if it is any different for other SKU’s.

    I am a bit confused…

I have been telling users group members that Delphi 2007 was part of the Studio Line, and if you purchased Delphi 2007 with S/A you would get the Highlander release with all of the products. Now it appears I was mistaken, I suspect I am not the only one.

I guess it depends on what version of S/A you purchase.

As an existing customer with S/A on Delphi 2007 how do I know which "S/A" that I have?

Is this new Studio -vs- just the product line S/A new with C++ Builder?

Can you sort out your stylesheet please. Your blog, and especially the comments, are barely readable in MSIE, and therefore also viewed in the BDS Welcome Page.

So why is SA USD750 to US users and GBP450 = USD900 to UK users? Is your UK customer base so strong that you can rip them off like this? Re: Robert Love’s post- in the CodeRage event it was definately stated that D2007 included all releases this year and I understood this to include for the Studio. After all D2007 is priced like it was the Studio isn’t it?.

For Delphi 2007 for Win32 we are offering Studio Support and Maintenance. There is no Delphi Win32 only Support and Maintenance option at the time of this blog post. The following image shows a sample shopping cart for a Delphi 2007 for Win32 Enterprise Upgrade order with Software Assurance.

I have updated my blog post with additional text and also additional bitmap examples.

Thanks for the comment and question.

I am using MSIE7 and Firefox2 and my blog posts and comments look okay on my monitor and three other notebooks in my office. Will see what I might do. Anyone else have any advice?

Yes, if you choose Software Assurance for D2007 you get studio level SA which means you will get all Delphi updates (win32 and .NET) in the 12 month S/A period.

Regarding the pricing, I will forward to our UK office. I am not the pricing person.

Will there be any plan to upgrade D2007 Enterprise SA to HL _Architect_ SA? Or ECO State Chart diagrams will be in Enterprise?

I think Support and Maintenance is just another way for them to make $$$.
