22 Years at CodeGear/Borland today! Join me in the Delphi/C++ Roadmap community chats this week…

Today, June 18th, I celebrate 22 years since I started at Borland in 1985.  It’s always a wonder where the time goes.  We have accomplished so much in all these years.  We have definitely helped move development foward on all fronts.  Being a developer, working with developers, writing programs, and talking about development has kept me young.  While some people think that we have created all that we need in developer tooling and IDE(s) in the past 55+ years of computer programming, I believe that we have only scratched the surface in helping improve the process of programming.

With all of the great features in CodeGear IDE(s), Visual Studio, NetBeans and Eclipse, we still can look forward to continued innovations in the way we develop, what languages (domain specific, compiled, managed, and dynamic) we use, what platforms we target, and how we organize ourselves and our teams.  What can still be done to improve our tooling?  How about some of the following features split into two categoris: Capabilities of the IDEs/Tools and Style of development.

Capabilities of the IDEs and Tools:

  • SOA / Service Component Architecture
  • Rich internet and AJAX enabled applications
  • Complimentary languages – managed, dynamic, & native
  • Concurrent programming
  • Software process – Robust, Agile, and otherwise
  • Integrate desktop/business applications
  • Vertical-market and domain-specific languages and frameworks
  • Embedded and Device Software Development
  • Integrated marketplace for services, components, plug-ins

Style of Development

  • Individuals, Small Teams, Large Teams, “Teams of Teams”
  • Virtual, Collaborative, Distributed, Hosted
  • Rich Internet Applications

Note: “Teams of Teams“ is a term I borrowed from Grady Booch.

Want to talk about roadmaps and some of these topics? Join me in one (or more) of the CodeGear Developer Network Delphi/C++ roadmap chats and demonstrations. They take place this week at the following dates and times:

Tuesday, June 19th: 7am, 11am, and 5pm
Wednesday: June 20th: 10am and 6pm
Thursday: June 21st: 7am, 12noon, and 6pm
Friday: June 22nd: 8am and 12noon.

The same presentation will be given during each of the sessions.  You are invited to attend one or more of the sessions.  There may be different demos and questions as we move through the week.  We are holding multiple sessions at different times during the week to give our global developer customers enough choices for time and date to be able to attend, learn and interact with CodeGear employees.

The Roadmap Community chats and demonstrations will be presented using InterWise and we encourage you to setup your computer before the event. (Alternately, your computer will be automatically setup when you enter the event with your PC. This may take several minutes.)

In advance or on the day of the event, please use the following links to register, setup, and participate any (or all) of the chats:

    Congratulations David.

22 Years in one single company is not so common these days, especially on your field. And I’m glad to see that you still love being there.

    Keep the good work,

    Madruga

    > Time to retire, I guess.

Not on your (my) life. As long as there is new ways to help improve developer productivity and success, I will be here.

    Hello David

    !!!Congratulations!!!

Stay around for a lot longer. We, the long standing loyal users need someone to moan at who actually understands what we loyal users want from Code Gear.

Turbo Delphi.net supporting .net2.0 would be nice. (I have not checked so if it is around plese tell me where to get it) As would a new Kylix.
