In Bangalore India for the JAX India conference

I arrived in Bangalore at 2:30am local time after my flight from San Francisco to Frankfurt to Mumbai to Bangalore.  The fun of business travel is sometimes less than glamorous.  I’m here for the JAX India conference.  This is the first JAX conference in India focused on Java, Eclipse, Enterprise Architectures, SOA, Web Services, Software Testing, and Project Management.

Tomorrow (Tuesday at 10am Bangalore time), I give a conference keynote address titled, "Java IDE(s) - Then, Now, and Eventually". In the keynote I will give an overview of where the integrated environemnts for Java development have been and where they must go to address the needs of developers and teams in the future.  The keynote presentation explores, through screen shots, the state-of-the-art in IDE(s) using JBuilder 2007, IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere, Sun NetBeans, and JetBrains IntelliJ.

The capabilities of IDE(s) to meet the needs of distributed development teams, support for building Rich Internet Applications, and rapid development of enterprise MashUps.  JBuilder 2007 uses Eclipse Mylar in ProjectAssist and TeamInsight. JBuilder uses Mylar for individual and team contextual task management and project planning.

Mik Kersten, the lead of the Mylar project, is presenting an interesting talk at JAX India, "Tasktop: the Task-focused Desktop". Mik’s work at TaskTop  fits well with the JBuilder team’s use of Mylar and contains additional thoughts beyond my keynote. From his abstract, "In a similar way to how the Mylar developer tools are transforming the productivity of Java programmers, the Tasktop is set to bring about a fundamental improvement in the productivity and working conditions of knowledge workers worldwide."
