New dbExpress driver for Firebird in Delphi 2010 and C++Builder 2010
Ok, the Firebird community asked for and now they have in RAD Studio 2010 a new dbExpress driver for Firebird, full support including the dbExpress framework, check this video out.

How about PostgreSQL? PostgreSQL is more pervasive than Interbase or Firebird.

What about IBX (IB Express) and Firebird in Delphi 2010 ?
Because IBX work fine with Firebird 2…

Hi Rob,
dbExpress Firebird driver is avaliable in Delphi Enterprise and Archictect. I believe you have to do remote connection for your database, in this case you need Enterprise, Professional only allow local connection for InterBase and MySQL.

For now the support is trough dbExpress, the # 1 request in CC, there is not to much request for IBX, but if you guys wanna, add a sugestion on CC (http://cc.embarcadero.com) and vote

The advertise was perfect "Delphi 2010 supports FireBird" !
Nobody mention that Professional version does not support FireBird. Next time we will buy an Embarcadero product, we have to be more carefull, because they are using cheap sales techniques.

Thank you for your reply, although I confess I don’t understand it. First, Firebird has an excellent embedded server option, and I use it in many of my applications. No remote connection needed. But are you also really saying that Delphi Professional allows me to write:
C:\Temp\Database.FDB
but prohibits
192.168.0.0:\Temp\Database.FDB ?
This is what I have been doing with Delphi Pro for the last 12 years.
Is it official Codegear/Embarcadero thinking that Professional developers never write software that accesses a database file using TCP/IP over a network? Or do I misunderstand your comment?
Or is this just part of a systematic feature creep, whereby Embarcadero squeeze features out of the Pro version into the Enterprise version as a way of bullying their customers into an upgrade? Surely Embarcadero would not stoop so low? If so, it would be more honest and probably more welcomed by your customers if you were to develop a core Delphi and sell plug-in modules that users could buy as needed. I am not an Enterprise, nor an Architect. I am an increasingly disillusioned Delphi developer.

The Feature Matrix has the info about Firebird driver as part of Ent and Arch edition - http://www.embarcadero.com/products/delphi/Delphi-Feature-Matrix.pdf
Bob, yes dbExpress in Delphi Pro is only for local development, you can use db Go, but you know dbExpress is faster them db Go.

Given Embacadero continues this silly "pro can’t access remote DBs via dbExpress" I am moving all my pets projects (which I develop at home with my Pro license - don’t use my company’s Enterprise one for my personal projects) to SQL Server Express and dbGo, or Postgres and Zeos. Really see no reason to spend a thousand of euros more just to get a database driver or two. And I’ll keep on telling all those who ask to steer away from Interbase - if its company itself does very little to broaden its use it’s better to keep away.

I don’t understand the reason why embarcadero excludes the pro developers for access the free firebird remote servers, so why include only for Enterprise and Architect, if those developers most of times have enough budget for buy any relational databases of their choice?

I am maintaining some database applications written in D5 and D6 and thought Delphi 2010 would make the job easier.
With the TIBQuery constantly crashing on creating a trigger in Firebird and the DBExpress not supporting remote databases
I found that Delphi 2010 is a totally useless piece of software for me.

I agree. If I ever do buy another Delphi, I’ll be scrutinizing the features matrix closely. I pay enough for the pro version, I don’t understand why they can’t include Firebird connectivity.

Agreed. Just purchased and downloaded 2010 pro thinking it had native Firebird support. Went through the whole installation, reinstalled all extra packages and components (1/2 day) to find no firebird driver in dbExpress. The advertising on the Embarcadero Delphi page is very misleading as it highlights this driver as a key feature of 2010. Have been a very loyal Delphi customer (from version 1!) Hope the other features advertised are in the Pro version of 2010 or I may have just sunk a fair chunk of cash upgrading from 2009…
